Council approved DIRECTION TO EVALUATE POTENTIAL MODIFICATIONS TO TEMPORARY ADVERTISEMENT INSTALLATIONS UNDER THE SUNSET ARTS & ADVERTISING PROGRAM AND SPECIAL EVENT PERMITS RELATED TO LONG-TERM ACTIVATIONS [C. BYERS] - 1) Direct Staff to evaluate potential modifications to the requirements of Section 8 of the Policy related to Temporary Advertising Installations, including potential increases to the number and duration of allowable installations, review of permitted activation types and operational standards, and any related amendments to the Zoning Ordinance, Municipal Code, the Policy and other Sunset Arts & Advertising Program (SAAP) requirements, and/or administrative procedures necessary to implement such changes. Staff's review should evaluate potential modifications to eligibility criteria, location standards, operational standards, public benefit requirements, and related permitting procedures; 2) Direct Staff to evaluate potential modifications to the special events permit requirements to allow for longer-term activations; and 3) Direct Staff to return to the City Council with recommendations for further consideration.
The proposal to evaluate modifications to the Sunset Boulevard Off-Site Signage Policy could lead to more frequent and longer-lasting temporary advertising installations along the Sunset Strip. This change aims to enhance the area's economic vitality and creative expression by potentially increasing the number and duration of advertising events. Residents and businesses might experience more vibrant street life and increased foot traffic, but also need to consider potential impacts on noise and congestion.
For residents living near Sunset Boulevard, this could mean more frequent temporary advertising events, which might increase noise and traffic in the area. Business owners along the strip could benefit from increased visibility and foot traffic due to more advertising events. However, residents might also face challenges with parking and congestion during these events.
