Council approved FIRE DISASTER PREPAREDNESS FOR RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES IN VERY HIGH FIRE HAZARD SEVERITY ZONES (FHSZ) [L. MEISTER] - 1) Direct staff to develop fire disaster preparedness training specifically for residents and businesses in the FHSZ designated "Very High"; 2) Direct staff to incorporate this discussion into the work plan for the Disabilities Advisory Board and Older Adult Advisory Board to provide input and engagement on the topic of emergency preparedness, particularly for the disabilities and access and functional needs community; 3) Direct staff to develop communications and other resources to adequately reach targeted communities; and 4) Direct staff to evaluate zoning, including residential density and parking requirements, that may impact public health and safety and, if warranted, explore potential exemptions for Very High FHSZ from SB 79 and Density Bonus Laws.
Using city funds, this initiative aims to enhance fire disaster preparedness for residents and businesses in West Hollywood's Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZ). The proposal focuses on developing targeted training and resources, reviewing zoning and parking regulations to improve safety and evacuation processes, and engaging vulnerable communities such as those with disabilities. This effort seeks to mitigate fire risks and enhance community resilience against wildfires.
If you live or own a business in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone in West Hollywood, this initiative could directly impact you by providing specialized training and resources to better prepare for potential fire disasters. It may also lead to changes in zoning and parking regulations, potentially affecting property use and evacuation routes. Residents with disabilities or special needs will have tailored resources and support to ensure their safety during emergencies.
